We’ve compiled a list of some of the world’s most expensive and extravagant luxury items.
The world’s most expensive bed: $1,5 million (about R10 million)
The world’s most expensive bed was designed by Dutch architect Janjaap Ruijssenaars. Why the huge price tag, you ask? Well, the bed actually hovers in midair, suspended by the means of “permanent opposing industrial-strength magnets”. Using this power, it can hold 900kg. And don’t worry, it won’t wander out of your open window at night like a flying carpet, as it’s attached to the ground by four thin cables.
The world’s most expensive toilet: $5 000 (about R34 000)
The Neorest 600 luxury toilet was created by the Japanese toilet maker Toto and is completely hands-free. You don’t have to use your hands for anything, other than touching the wireless remote to control those functions that aren’t automatic. The toilet lid automatically opens when you approach it, the Power Catalytic Air Purifier sets off as soon as you get up and the toilet automatically flushes and closes when you are out of range of the sensor zone. It even washes and dries your naughty bits for you.
The world’s most expensive car: $1,8 million (about R12 million)
The Bugatti Veyron is the most expensive modern car in the world and has a top speed of 408km/h. The Super Sport version can reach a top speed of 431km/h. This sexy beast was designed and developed by Volkswagen and produced by Bugatti Automobiles SAS. Popular television show Top Gear named it their car of the decade.
The world’s most expensive dessert: $25 000 (about R168 000)
The Frrrozen Haute Chocolate was officially named the world’s most expensive dessert by the Guinness Book of World Records. Served at Serendipity 3 Restaurant in New York City, the dessert blends 28 of the world’s most expensive cocoas and 23 carats of gold. The luxurious sundae is then served in a chalice with edible gold flakes, topped with a truffle flown in from France and finished with a diamond and gold bracelet around the base. Talk about extravagant!
