5 weekend markets you have to visit in Johannesburg

Locrate Market (Soweto)

Locrate Market

Locrate Market is almost similar to the popular Neigbourgoods Market in Braamfontein in that it is Instagram land! Over the year, the market has become one of the most popular markets in the city probably because most people are always keen for a fun time in Soweto.  There’s a variety of food stalls to choose from, including the ever popular Balkan Burger stand. You can also invest in some vintage apparel and enjoy live poetry and rap while sipping on a cocktail in a jar. If you haven’t yet made your way here, you’re falling behind on your trendy-places-to-be-seen-in bucket list.

The Collective Market (Kramerville)

The Collective market

Kramerville might not seem like the most ideal place for a market, but this design district of South Africa has one of the best and probably underrated markets the city has to offer. Our favourite thing about the market is probably that it’s on a rooftop – there’s something about being in the open air on top of a building that always just feels extraordinary. The market is open on the first Sunday of the month and offers a wide variety of food choices from salmon bagels to delicious wraps.

Jozi Real Food Market (Randburg)

Jozi Real Food Market

The Jozi Real Food Market, quite true to its name, is the premiere source for all kinds of food out of all the markets on this list and most in Johannesburg. There are an estimated 40 stands selling food. It’s also a family-friendly market so you can come with your little baby, your sister’s children and a pet.
