Actor and former Top Billing presenter Tumisho Masha (41) was arrested last week Thursday on charges of domestic assault, police confirmed to TMG.
Gauteng police spokesperson Captain Mavela Masondo confirmed that the star was arrested on September 15, only a few weeks after he hosted a star-studded birthday party at the renowned Steyn City Clubhouse venue.
“Tumisho Masha, 41 years old, was arrested on September 15, 2016 and released on R1 000 bail,” Masondo’s statement read.
It had been alleged that the star physically assaulted his wife, Zozibini Mtongana, in their Johannesburg home on July 20. It’s said that she then applied for a protection order against him at the Randburg Magistrate’s Court and it was granted on the same day.
Officials who spoke to TMG said that Mtongana also laid charges of domestic assault at the Douglasdale Police Station on September 14 and Masha was subsequently arrested the following day. He was arrested on the day that he was set to appear in court for an inquiry into the protection order.
Masha was reportedly released on bail last week Friday and the case has since been postponed to October 10.
When the allegations were initially made at the beginning of August, Masha told Sunday World that while he and his wife may have been having some marital trouble, he was not a “wife basher”.

“Yes. I can confirm we have been having troubles in our marriage. But did I slap her? No. Did I kick her in the stomach? No. I didn’t do either of that. I’m not a woman or wife basher,” Masha said.
“Family interference is the main cause of the problems in my marriage. On the day she alleges that I slapped her thrice across the face, I actually wanted to talk to her about her mother’s stay in our house. I didn’t assault her. My wife is light-skinned. How come she went to work that day and nobody noticed anything?”
