In the blink of an eye, winter will be in full swing, and the last thing you want is to be unprepared for it. But investing in a winter wardrobe isn’t about buying an entirely new set of clothes. Rather, it’s about choosing essential pieces you can wear more than once a week with different looks.
Winter essentials should be both functional and stylish. Mpumi Sinxoto, DESTINY MAN’s fashion and lifestyle director, offers pointers on the six winter essentials for men:
A tan woollen overcoat
This is a lifetime investment and will probably one of the most convenient items in your wardrobe, because you can throw it over anything to instantly warm up and elevate a look. “What’s great about a wool coat is that it strikes the balance between on-duty and off-duty elegance,” Sinxoto says.
A tweed blazer
As the colder months approach, swap out your usual blazer for a tweed one. Not only does it add a contemporary feel to your look, but it’s also functional for the colder months. “Tweed is a trusted, warm staple that works effortlessly with all classic pieces in the modern man’s wardrobe,” Sinxoto says.
Smart brogue boots
Brogue boots are the winter alternative to brogue dress shoes. They’re often seen as a casual alternative, but they can also work well with a formal ensemble. “Brogue boots are a nice balance between the classic dress shoe and a dress shoe with a modern touch, because it’s more rugged and has a thicker sole. It’s also quite a versatile shoe – it can be worn with a suit or jeans,” Sinxoto explains.
The roll-neck jersey is a classic that isn’t about to go off trend anytime soon. It’s sophisticated and has a clean feel to it when paired with a blazer. “The roll-neck is a suitable alternative to a shirt and tie.”
A cable knit
The cable knit jersey or cardigan is a winter must-have. It’s suitable for all occasions. Sinxoto says this staple will inject any look with texture, detail and depth while keeping you warm.
