TRESOR bags a 7-figure record deal

Platinum-selling Congolese-born artist TRESOR Riziki just signed a multi-year record deal with Universal Music for an estimated several million rand

The deal, brokered by his management company Vth Season and his new label VII Recordings, is believed to be one of the most lucrative deals ever for a South African-based artist. The news arrives just ahead of the release his sophomore album, The Beautiful Madness, expected to be released in May. It’s available for pre-order on iTunes as of today.

Idolised for his innovative style and lyrical fluidity, TRESOR’s new single Remedy (his first release in a while and also the first single off the new album) is sure to catapult the icon to an even higher pop pedestal. The song is currently on high rotation on local radio stations and is an artsy electro nod to the 70s and 80s disco era. The music video for Remedy debuted on Trace Urban this morning.

“I’m super excited for this new chapter in my musical career. I can’t wait to share my new music and creative direction with music lovers across the globe. I would like to thank Vth SEASON and Universal Music for journeying with me and believing that the best is yet to come,” TRESOR said in a statement.

Owner of Vth Season Raphael Benza said: “We are more than excited to do a follow-up album on TRESOR’s SAMA Best POP Winning Album. The album features fresh new music and a music style that will excite his fans from Japan, South Africa, Italy, UK and everywhere… The new project has the backing of VII Recordings and Universal Music, our new global partners for this release.”

Over the past two years, TRESOR and Vth Season have shared several defining highlights, including the artist’s Best Pop Album win at last year’s SAMAs. His VII album also debuted at #2 on the SA iTunes Pop Chart. The artist also signed a worldwide deal with Ultra Records, which included the release and distribution of his music to North & South America, Canada, United Kingdom, Asia, Australia as well as the Benelux region. He was later handpicked by Seal to be his supporting act on a 3-day SA tour and also performed alongside Italian superstars at the Battiti Live Festival in Southern Italy for an amazing crowd of 60 000 people who sang along to his music.

“We’ve had an amazing journey with TRESOR thus far and we are very proud of the accomplishments we managed to achievement in such a short space of time. We believe in his artistry and fully support his music and his brand, and are excited about this new deal with Universal Music which can only help elevate our efforts and give TRESOR all the extra support needed to take his brand global,” said Ninel Musson, Director at Vth SEASON.
