Vusi Thembekwayo launches mentorship programme for 40 entrepreneurs

Here's all you need to know about becoming one of the 40 entrepreneurs Dragons' Dragon star Vusi Thembekwayo is looking to mentor through a programme developed by his new fund

If you’re running a small business with a turnover of R1 million per annum and looking for help to grow, then you’re exactly who Thembekwayo is looking for.

Through his newly launched incubation firm MyGrowthFund, Thembekwayo is looking for entrepreneurs to participate in an 18-month mentorship programme, dubbed #Top40, with him and a group of professionals, including finance, marketing, HR and IT specialists.

“Our experience has taught us that most entrepreneurs die at the growth phase of their business. This is typically after a year in operation. Our expertise is helping businesses thrive through the challenges of growth,” he says.

MyGrowthFund was established to identify, nurture and build black-owned business through funding, incubation, skills development and opening the doors to supply chain opportunities for high-growth-potential SMEs.

Applicants will have to demonstrate their business’s financial performance by submitting audited financial statements.

“MyGrowthFund exists to mentor and fund entrepreneurs through their growth challenges. It is in this growth phase that we want to support entrepreneurs who have hit a ceiling and would like to take their business to the next level.”

For Thembekwayo, success is all about creating the right habits that set you up for achieving whatever you set out to do. He believes that most entrepreneurship ventures fail because entrepreneurs have poor habits.

He says the mentorship programme will aim to instil the following successful habits:

1. Practical financial and cash flow scheduling

2. Robust market access systems that are scalable and measurable

3. People management, rewards and motivation systems to ensure the entrepreneur maximises their single most important asset, their people.
