ANC NEC recalls President Jacob Zuma

The ANC NEC decided to recall the President in accordance with rule 12.2 of the ruling party, which allows it to recall its deployees

“We went with Deputy Secretary-General Jessie Duarte today to meet with the President and we communicated the decision of the NEC – obviously, we are giving him time and space to respond,” ANC Secretary-General Ace Magashule told a media briefing in Johannesburg.

“We haven’t given him [Zuma] any deadline to respond.”

Magashule described the discussion with Zuma as “constructive”, saying the only disagreement was Zuma’s insistence on staying on as country President for a period of three to six months.

The ANC said the ball was now in Zuma’s court. “I don’t know what will happen, but let’s leave it to President Jacob Zuma.”
Magashule told the media that the NEC decided to recall the President in accordance with rule 12.2 of the ANC, which allows the ruling to recall its deployees.

He said there was no deadline given to Zuma.

“We will see what comrade Zuma’s response is, but it’s obvious that we want [ANC President] comrade Ramaphosa to take over as the President of the country.”
