Avoid annoying queues at overcrowded malls and buy your clothes online.
We do internet banking, social networking and online movie bookings, but when it comes to buying clothing online, many are somewhat sceptical. But online shopping offers the perfect solution for mall-weary men.
Sandiso Ngubane, fashion blogger and journalist, says while online shopping may seem intimidating, there is nothing to fear. “The worst that can happen is that you don’t know your size when ordering clothing,” he says. “But most online shopping portals deliver and do returns for free.”
Another advantage of online shopping is that it’s often cheaper than buying clothes at stores, says Ngubane. “You can get great bargains on international brands.”
Ngubane recommends UK online shopping portals www.mrporter.com and www.asos.com. Both sites have great navigation tools and are user-friendly, but keep in mind the delivery fees might be steep, and you will have to pay customs before collecting your package in SA.
Local offerings are also available, with 36 Boutiques planning to launch 36Man in April 2012.
Online shopping tips
Ngubane offers the following tips when it comes to buying clothes online:
• Know your size, as this limits the need to return clothes. Measure yourself and check it against the size chart available on most sites.
• Don’t take shortcuts or jump at the first good deal. You may be tempted to speed up the process, but take the time to examine what you’re buying by using zoom functions and double checking sizes.
• Online shopping sites often have good information and advice so make use of these tools.
