In the build-up to the DESTINY FORUM, we introduce you to one of our inspiring speakers – Rev Dr Iyanla Vanzant.

Rev Dr Iyanla Vanzant’s (pronounced E-Yan-La) story contains the stuff that Hollywood movies are made of. It is story of tragedy, struggle, strength, courage and triumph.

Born in Brooklyn, New York in the USA, Vanzant was the product of an extramarital affair. At the age of three, her mom passed away from breast cancer. Her uncle raped her when she was nine. She was a mom at the age of 16. From age 22 to 30, her husband physically abused her. Two suicide attempts later, Vanzant decided to escape the marriage, taking her three kids with her. Now a single mom, she struggled to make ends meet and reached rock bottom. But out of her greatest despair came her greatest hope.

Vanzant was inspired by a sign on the bus to change her life by attending Medgar Evers College in Brooklyn. Vanzant graduated summa cum laude at age 34 and went on to graduate from the City University of New York Law School at age 38. After three years as an attorney, she realised law was not her passion and found herself back at square one.

One day a friend invited her to teach a class for women who were being trained to transition from welfare to work. Vanzant found a new purpose and went on to produce a workbook for the class. Tapping The Power Within: A Path To Self Empowerment For Black Women became her first public work. Fifteen titles later, including 5 New York Times bestsellers, and Vanzant is the founder and Director of the Inner Visions Institute of Spiritual Development. She travels the world sharing her knowledge of universal principle and law and the truth of unconditional love to motivate others to create a better life, a better community and a better world.

Vanzant’s journey teaches us that you can achieve anything in life, no matter your background or circumstances, when you follow your passion.
