The Premier Soccer League is confident that it will be able to find and conclude sponsorships for the upcoming season

The Premier Soccer League (PSL) is positive regarding securing sponsorships before the kickoff for the new season. Major key sponsors MTN, Nedbank, Absa and Telkom had not renewed their sponsorship contracts with the PSL prior to the new season.

Connie Motshumi, Head of Stakeholder Relations and Communications at PSL, dismissed claims of the organisation being in crisis regarding sponsors not renewing their contracts. “The PSL is currently involved in negotiations with sponsors/partners. Sponsorship negotiations in general are not done overnight; it’s a process and we must all respect that process to unfold. That certainly doesn’t qualify as a crisis – it’s a process that requires a bit of patience from all sides. As the PSL, we are confident that we will be able to conclude everything on time,” says Motshumi.

“We are in negotiations with the sponsors as we speak. We will make announcements at an appropriate time. There is no official statement regarding the negotiations. We would rather communicate when everything is signed and sealed. We will communicate to all stakeholders at the right time,” Motshumi added.

According to The New Age, Absa, one of SA’s biggest banks, has been sponsoring the PSL for the last five year, with the winner receiving around R10 million, while cellphone giant MTN has been sponsoring around R8 million.

Motshumi said they will be able to give us an update later today or tomorrow morning.
