South African film How 2 Steal 2 Million has been named Best Film at the eighth Africa Movie Academy Awards, held in Lagos, Nigeria.
South African film How 2 Steal 2 Million shone at this year's Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA) held on Sunday 22 April 2012, scooping four awards, including Best Film.
The movie's director, Charlie Vundla, walked away with the award for Best Director, while SA's golden girl Terry Pheto won Best Supporting Actress. The fourth award was for Best Achievement in Editing.
Speaking exclusively to DESTINY last year before his film was released, Vundla said: ”I just make movies, that's a big enough challenge without concerning myself with the politics. We have it pretty good here. The national government funds movies! They don't do that in America. SA’s movie industry is up and coming. Hopefully we'll soon get to where the Brazils, Argentinas and Mexicos of the world are.
"The best part of my job is making something out of nothing. Having something that started out in my head actually play out on a big screen is incredible."
South Africa shines at the Africa Movie Academy Awards
But SA didn't stop there, as two more local productions scooped up awards. State Of Violance took home the awards for Best Achievement in Sound and Best Film in an African Language. And the soon-to-be-released Otelo Burning walked away with Best Achievement in Cinematography and one of its stars, Tsepang Mohlomi, won Best Child Actor for his role as Ntwe.
