The Fezile Dabi District Municipality will host an HIV/Aids concert to coincide with World Aids Day on 1 December.
This annual event seeks to create HIV/Aids awareness and to raise funds for various charity organisations within the district of Fezile Dabi. We chat to Tony Moholi, an organiser from Khemano Consortium, about the concert.
What can people expect from the concert?
People can expect the best concert experience ever! People should expect the unexpected. We got the best quality equipments, sound and lighting available. We’ve got the best line-up in the history of the concert. We are expecting a minimum of 10 000 people. This a must-attend concert.
Who are the beneficiaries?
We choose 10 charity organisations out of 20 every year, depending on their needs. Non-profit organisations that could benefit from the concert are: LoveLife, Makro HIV/Aids Support Group and South African Men’s Action Group, to name a few.
How are the funds going to be raised?
The entire campaign has three stages, namely:
- The Walk for Freedom leg, which happened on 11 November;
- The gala dinner, which is happening on 25 November. A table costs R15 000. To book a table for a group or individual, contact Buzi Ruda at 072 142 2755 or email email@example.com;
- The HIV/Aids Benefit Concert at Abrahamsrust Resort in Sasolburg.
Why was Generations star Katlego Danke selected as the brand ambassador for the campaign?
I had a chat with Katlego at a function and found out that she was looking for charity organisations to adopt every year and try to secure funding through corporations. She is the perfect ambassador.
Which artists will perform at the concert?
The concert will feature SA’s top artist like Hugh Masekela, Caiphus Semenya, Ringo Madlingozi, Nhlanhla Nciza, Sipho Mabuse, Ntando, Mzwakhe Mbuli, Zahara and Nkuli Dube, the late Lucky Dube’s daughter.
How many years has the concert been running? And how much has been raised?
This is our 8th year running and we are going from strength to strength. We have distributed about R1,67 million to about 18 non-government organisations.
