Why you shouldn’t be scared of a manbag

There’s nothing wrong with carrying this practical accessory.

The manbag has been around for ages, but only recently has it become one of men’s must-have fashion accessories. It’s extremely practical and with a little thought and effort, it can be stylish, too.

What’s in my bag?
Mobiles: I have two mobiles, because the battery life of my smartphone (the cellphone I use the most) is as short as the memory of a goldfish. And I keep these gadgets in the bag because they can be unsightly when bulging in my pockets.
Wallet: There’s a lot of stuff that goes in here, including receipts, business cards, bank cards and coins.
Laptop: I see my bag as compromise between a briefcase and a backpack. The former doesn’t appeal to me because it’s what my father carried in his time and as for the latter, it’s reminiscent of the college days that I’d like to forget.
Lotion: In my line of work, I shake hands a lot and nobody likes to be clenched by a pair of vice-grip pliers. Lip balm is also handy.
Pocket knife: I don’t go anywhere without this pal. It has wine and beer openers, scissors, a torch, screwdrivers and knives. A man doesn’t always know when he might need a beer opener!

Spotted with the bag
If you still have qualms about lugging your stuff in the manbag, we know of a few people who’ve been tagged with the manbag on their shoulders. We spotted David Kau, SA comedian and host of BBC’s Tuesday Comedy Nights, with his compact bag strapped over his shoulder and the best dressed footballer, David Beckman, has been photographed carrying different kinds of bags on many occasions. He definitely has a collection! And remember Simon Ross in Matt Damon’s Born Ultimatum (2007)? He’s the British investigative reporter digging information on Operation Blackbriar. And yes, you guessed right... he carries a man bag.
