Enjoy a festive picnic at the magnificent Spier Wine Estate in Stellenbosch.
Spier Wine Estate was founded in 1692 and is one of the oldest and most celebrated in the Cape Winelands. When CEO Andrew Milne was seeking inspiration for a new range of wines, he no doubt wandered around his beautiful Cape Dutch gabled buildings and there was his inspiration: a total of 21 beautifully preserved centre and end gables. Spier’s award-winning 21 Gables celebrate the legacy of wine-making in SA, as well as the farm’s unique architectural features.
To complement their wines, Spier has opened a new wine-tasting venue overlooking the popular Spier dam and picnic lawns. It has stunning views of the estate and the far Helderberg.
The double-volume building is light and open, and maximises the views. Inside and outside seating on the deck is available, with a lounge section next to the fireplace, ideal for winter tastings. Natural reclaimed wood and stone finishes create an environment that is inviting, chic and contemporary without losing the old-world, heritage charm of the estate.
For the holiday season, well-priced picnic hampers ranging from R170-R298 are available from Eight to Go at Spier.
The festive picnic is available until 1 January 2012 and the R298 option for two people includes:
In keeping with Spier’s ethos, the packaging is 100% biodegradable and compostable. The picnics need to be booked two working days in advance and are available for collection from Eight to Go, next door to Eight restaurant.
This is a must place visit to while away a beautiful Cape experience.
