The Prayer for this week:
I Pray for the joy of the Lord to overtake you as His blessings go before you.
This week’s reminder
Avert failure by learning to transform what didn’t work for you in 2009 into positive, meaningful pointers for moulding your 2010.Allow what didn’t work for you to point the way to what will work for you
Off late there has been a disturbing trend that has seemed to have grown over the previous years to an extent that is very alarming. Black students seems to have lost way of life least as far as their academic life is concern.
They seems to be more concerned with being the most popular in Fashion & party stakes as opposed to being the best in academic fields, this is so disheartening when you consider where this country comes from & all the sacrifices that our parents makes to get us to tertiary institutions.(debts, second or third jobs, mortgages, cashing up life savings)
When you go around Sunnyside for instance & you study the students patterns of life is absolute disgusting, if not heartbreaking. Majority of them seems to suffer from some disillusion of some kind thinking that the main reason that might have brought them to the big cities from the villages, townships, loctions, suburbs & farms
Sex, drugs indulgence, alcohol abuse, mmoral distortions to name just few seems to be what we have given ourselves to, rather than our studies.
This circle needs to end with our generation but before it does happen we need to ask ourselves few questions….
Do we realize the implications of our actions to the future of our country??
Do we understand how awkward is it to see a young man/lady throwing their future away for a momentous enjoyment?
Have we ever thought about how we going to react if our parents just pitched up at our doorsteps?
+-60% percent of revelars/night crawlers are full time student who’s academic results are below par
Most young girls falls pregnant by end of their first year study term
Most black students are likely to drop out of tertiary institutions before completing the course/degrees/diplomas as they might have taken a field which promised high potential earnings than the one which the might have been more passionate about.
Our parents are also to be blamed but partly for our career choices, as many of them seems to be living their dreams through ours.
The above are some of instances that we at the Justpulse Foundation has found on our researches into what might be hampering black students growth & maturity.
The picture is very bleak but not necessarily as bad as it seems. U must remember that even if there are this student mentioned above still, there are those unsung heroes who have solely committed themselves whole heartedly to their studies & are graduating on top of their classes at a record time (4 years for a degree)
But honestly speaking our biggest challenges are lack of unity in our institutions where most students have adopted a corrupt way of life; me, myself & I which results mainly in an unbalanced & unfulfilled life
If the final year students can take their previous year notes, exams papers & pass them through to a new class & them can do the same with the first year students, don’t you think that we can have some sense of ubutu re-injected into our lives, which will also improve our pass rates & get us specialized graduates with trustworthyness learned.
You should always remind yourself that life is a two way thing therefore you need others to reach your goals but well that is overshadowed by the spirit of competition that we have sold ourselves to.
Other things that we have observed is lack of career guide as majority seems to follow career line similar to that of their siblings, parents or best friends bring forth a clouded judgments about their future aspirations we lack mostly in specialized areas which find most students take courses in IT, Engineering, Ba’s,communication sciences, Gp’s, Auditors rather than private Bankers, CA’s, specializing Doctors, Scientists, Hairstylists, MBA grad, patent lawyers, meteorologists, metallurgists who will for years to come remain the highly sort after individuals.
One needs to consider that most career life span is 40-50 years but do u wanna be stuck for that long in a deadwood career that bring money yet no happiness & stability??
With all this negative findings one needs to ask themselves what can be done??
Its very important that we at all times try to push black, Indians, Chinese students. Whom were previously disadvantaged by Apartheid to be on parallel level with the Whites, but ones that are more misbalanced are the black ones irregardless of where they grew up
Have you noticed that majority of us are lazy to an extent were by will be schooling for only 6 months & emerging with a useless national diploma that will of course get us employed but will have dire implications in the near future
But all is not necessarily bad as we as a Non Governmental Organization will engage with dean of students, Rectors, Private sectors, SRC’s, Chancellors, Big Corporate to see how they can adopt schools & its students to give them a practical experience so they can makes an informed choices about their future, even though most big universities have orientation programme & student counselors one needs to realize that the has been mixed results with this but mostly ineffective ones
Another challenges will be involving former students to share with current students their previous challenges and how they overcame them & got to finish their degrees in time despite the temptations that came their ways
Please note this call if you’re a previous student & identify where u can help or to become an ambassadors or Volunteer with us mail me at justpulse@yahoo.co.uk
