A good house party is hard to find…

I think August should be a month with limited entertainment – most people I know have flu or some kind of ailment, which has kept them indoors drinking soup and pretending that the world is about to end.
I had the opportunity to attend a party in one of those loft apartments in Milpark over the weekend, and it was a refreshing thing to attend a party where everyone was having fun and there were no pretentions. Every person in the room was lively and all seemed to be having a great time. It was also the first time I had the opportunity to see one of the famous loft apartments up close, and I was pleasantly impressed with the set up. It has three floors, and on each floor there was an activity with people spread over all the floors, with bonfires on the roof and the main party on the mezzanine floor. The best thing of all was the music – it catered for everyone, with old school tunes to current hip hop and house tracks that had all the revelers on the dance floor all night. Also, there wasn’t food, which is always a good thing. I don’t understand the need to feed people dodgy food at a late hour when you could just as well spend that cash on more drinks for the guests. People need to eat at their own places and come to parties to party, not to get a free feed. On the whole, it was a good evening out.

The rest of my weekend was spent playing games and watching the athletics world championships. It was strange to realise we have athletes representing our country at this event, yet you can only watch it on satellite television – there was nothing on the public broadcaster. I guess it’s tough luck for the people with no DStv.
