Would a female Julius Malema please stand up!
BOOKMARKS
Timothy Maurice Webster writes...Where are the female Julius Malemas? Audaciously irresponsible but filled with hope, this loose cannon otherwise known as the ANC's Youth League President, represents a future for millions of young South Africans. A quick google of this ANC superstar and you'll find a 'Quote Subscription Site' where you can subscribe to his quotes for only R2/per day via your cellphone. How many of you can say that people will pay even .50 to hear what you think? Whether you love or hate the man, you must admit his Brand causes a stirring. The same sort of stirring the younger version of Winnie Mandela caused. The sort of stirring a Prada Bag Carrying, Unnecessarily Large Sunglass Wearing, Skinny Cappuccino Drinking and Yoga Attending young woman would never cause... EXCUSE ME, ALLOW ME TO PRESS PAUSE:: Here's a philosophical question- Do we have the luxury of being so luxurious? The answer to this question is personal, each person reading this will answer differently... many will argue that you work hard and therefore deserve to experience the finer things in life. Others will argue that you must sacrifice your shopping sprees for community development and school-fee sponsorship sprees. However you depart this question, we all must leave conscious of the fact that Malema wouldn't be relevant if we ALL paid more attention to the poor. And moreover, I believe a woman with the same level of fire and conviction as Malema, passion for her community, the same media savvy ability and the same ability to relate with her constituency would be thrice as powerful and thrice as effective. A woman with a socially relevant brand as powerful as Malemas wouldn't be nearly as wreck-less nor would she cause so much division. In fact, she would most likely do so gracefully while carrying a Prada Bag and finding a way to attend her weekly Yoga classes. Would the female Julius Malema PLEASE stand up... because we need feminine alternatives, badly... let's continue the debate on twitter www.twitter.com/timothymaurice

# re: Would a female Julius Malema please stand up! Hi Maurice
I am not sure how other women feel about this but for me, i just hear another man telling me how to act and behave so i may qualify to being close to being a man. In my opinion, you chose the wrong person as an example. You are comparing apples with oranges here. We are women who are happy to be women and do things in womanly ways.

# re: Would a female Julius Malema please stand up! Hi Monnosi, I appreciate your feedback. If you read closely, I'm certainly not advocating women change... in fact, what I am advocating is that we need women to be women and we wouldn't have all the drama that Malema is causing... if you read the last part, that's exactly why I would like a Female version of Malema (without the wreck-lessness) to please stand up! thanks for commenting, tmw

# re: Would a female Julius Malema please stand up! I hear you Maurice and I fully agree. Its not about being closer to a man but its about us women taking a stand for what we believe in and being vocal about it. The woman of the 1956 womens march demonstrated their belief and their strength. They did not want to be equal to men, NO, but they gave a strong message that you strike a woman you strike a rock. They did not stay dissatisfied among themselves but they made sure that their statement, their voices were heard. And that is what you are encouraging us as women to do. Julius Malema caused an uproar and stirred peoples emotions. He went into territory not normally undertaken and whether you like him or not or hate his speech, point of the matter remains he was heard! We spoke against him but were not really "heard" - in the sense that we drove change to take place... the power, passion and belief did not come out as his, and I believe Maurice (correct if I am wrong) you want the woman to rise and speak with passion, drive, power and presence! Whether people like you or not at the end of the day when your name is called something (negative or positive) in people is moved, they listen and hear what you have to say!!!

Beautiful piece, i'm encouraged and excited :)

# re: Would a female Julius Malema please stand up! I understand what Maurice is saying here - a strong female voice has special effects that can make an even bigger impact. I don't have any answer about where this lady is hiding.

# re: Would a female Julius Malema please stand up! In essence the fact that Julius Malema is on our lips quite a few times, shows that he has already created a recognisable brand for himself whether good or bad..imagine doing the same for yourself, with a positive spin all the the way.

# re: Would a female Julius Malema please stand up! Very interesting topic Tim I must admit, I am not a Malema fan at all and I won't ever be, and I love the ANC so don't get me wrong. I know a lot of women who made amazing impact in the community without succumbing to being a Malema female version, your mother is one phenomenal woman, my mom is or was, Anti Emily your back opposite neighbor has raised doctors and advocates from a domestic worker salary of R69 a month, our mothers have branded us younger generation very well that is why you say anything bad about my momma you'll have me to answer to. A point I am trying to make is this: you don't have to make noice to make a difference. besides sometimes an empty tin makes the loudest noice.

# re: Would a female Julius Malema please stand up! Hi Lebo,

Thanks for your reply. The point I was making is that while Malema rattles like the tin you mentioned, he also, has unparalleled conviction, passion and loyalty that is missing from most of the new elite. thanks tmw

# re: Would a female Julius Malema please stand up! We as women need to support each other more than trying to putting each other down. I haven't found anyware in the corporate world where a woman in a senior position will grow and promote another woman. Men support each other - we are catty with each other. Maybe if we as women are more supportive and understanding of each other a women will rise to lead us to freedom, peace and love.

# re: Would a female Julius Malema please stand up! We have to first deal with fixation - and convenience.
Fixation is material demonstration of power in society and convenience is when people own the easy way - beauty and label are easy to display compared to pushing frontiers - hence the JSE listed companies will remain women bankrupted
